Lets Begin!
1.What team has made the biggest impact this season and what do you see as their future?
J: My vote for this question would go to the Golden State Warriors.
They went from lotto team to top seed basically in one seed. I love what GM Habes has done with this young squad and he has moved pieces like Ford to make room for the younger players to shine. As far as the future goes, his team is in great shape. He has a young player basically filled at every position and has used the drafts to build a nice young and upcoming team that can win right now.
Duce: Golden State for sure. Habes cashed in some chips and got Kobe and all of a sudden the Warriors are a team of launchers similar to his UOSL1 team. I think the coolest part is that aside from Bryant, all these guys are still relatively young... Biedrins, Collison, Barbosa, Rondo, Gallinari... I think it's only a matter of if some of those guys go for another star to team up with Bryant. Otherwise GSW has very many winning years ahead of them.
Nova: The Chicago Bulls. They've just had a dominant season, and Kirk Hinrich has been out for the majority of the season as well. This team has an unbelievable trio in McGrady, Pierce, & Brand, and their an upgrade at Center away from being a no-doubt title team. Even right now, they are probably the best team out East. As for their future, the three stars all over age 30, and they don't really have any good youth, so they can probably contend for another year or two, but will then have to rebuild and deal off their stars for younger players and picks.
Bluedevils: The Warriors have had a breakthrough season. PG play is crucial in this league, and Golden State has two pretty damn good ones. Much of their roster is still very young, and Kobe's production doesn't seem to be decreasing. Aside from the Lakers, I don't see anyone else in their division challenging them for the next few years. However, I think their one post player away from being a championship team.
MaarinX: I think Philly. They have a fantastic young team full of talent, they're doing great this season and i believe great things
are coming for fans in Philly in near future, they're still too fresh for serious PO battle but they'll be ready very soon,
they need to get a great defensive presence at C.
2. Which team is the biggest disappointment this season?
J:In my opinion, that would be the Atlanta Hawks. When you look on paper and see all these players that look to be in their prime, you would think they would be a playoff team at the minimum. Instead, at one time they were even the #1 pick spot and as of now are barely holding water as part of the lower echelon of the Eastern Conference. I figured when they were weaving the youngster Weaver into big minutes, they were heading into the right direction, but the guess the team is too young right now and not surrounded with enough veterans, to help them develop quicker.
Duce: That would have to be Portland. They have a similar team to last year, and I don't know if that Ben Wallace trade killed them but they took a pretty big fall for a roster that is almost the same as last year when their team was very good.
Nova: The San Antonio Spurs. Coming into the season, everyone knew they were no longer a dominant team, but everyone believed they were still a top team out West. However, they are currently 34-35, and have lost 10 in a row. They'll be lucky if they can stay in the playoffs. This was a team that a lot of people expected to compete in the West, and they may not even make the playoffs.
Bluedevils: The biggest dissapointment is the Heat. They play in an abysmal division, and with premier talent like Mike Beasley, Ben Gordon, and an efficient point guard in Mike Conley. Granted, Gordon has missed some time, but I would expect Head to fill in and play well, and with a facilitator like Conley, things should have still ran smoothly.
MaarinX: Spurs definitely. TD, Dirk, CV and Manu should take any team to the top and Spurs had lost
10 straight games and theyre in danger of falling out of POs.
3. Which Player is the biggest disappointment this season?
J: I would have to say Lamar Odom on this one. He seems to be continuously traded like he is a sack of balls, every other day. He is not living to the contract that he was handed during free agency. This lackluster play will not cut it, if he wants to continue playing for years and years in UOSL2.
Duce: I think it's Lamar Odom. He got paid very generously in the off-season and I think the expectations were for him to even top his usual 14-8-4. Instead most of his stats are down, even when he's more involved.
Nova: Sticking with the Spurs, I'd have to say Manu Ginobili. Most of his numbers are similar to last season's, but his scoring is way down, and if he was scoring 19.8 a game instead of 13.7 a game, this team would probably be much higher in the standings.
Bluedevils: I understand that he's a 3rd option in a fast paced offense, but Bynum's scoring output and somewhat poor FG % so far justify a max contract. I also offered the big man a max deal, and I would also have been disappointed if he were on my team, especially after some very promising years in Phoenix. Maybe the Nets are not maximizing his talents, but I say you better be if your paying him that money.
MaarinX: Kevin Garnett. He is struggling too much on offense this season and once more his team
will not make it to POs. Seems like best years have passed for mr.Garnett.
4. Who is your 2010 UOSL2 champion?
J: Chicago Bulls. It was a tough choice between the Warriors and Bulls, but I went with the East Squad. They have a great combo of solid defensive talent in addition to numerous scoring options, so they can basically play against any style or tempo put out by another opponent. I see Bulls winning it over the Warriors in 6 games.
Duce: I picked the Warriors. I'll stick with that. I don't really think they're actually the best overall team but it's fun to see them win. So i'll say they'll get through a weakened western conference and steal the title from the east.
Nova: The Utah Jazz. They don't score a ton, but they are the best defensive team in the league. Devin Harris is not the most efficient or best ball-handling PG, but he makes up for it on the defensive end by shutting down opposing Point Guards. The trio of Gay-Kirilenko-Garnett are also arguably the best defensive 2-3-4 trio in the league. At center, rookie Patrick Patterson is already a premier rebounder and wil block some shots. Their also quite deep, with J.R. Smith & Kendrick Perkins making big contributions off the bench. Come playoff time, if they can stay healthy, I believe their defense and efficiency will carry them to the UOSL Championship.
Bluedevils: The Bulls. A +10 PPG-to-oPPG differential proves their dominance. They have too much scoring for most teams to deal with.
MaarinX: Ill go with Bulls once more. I believe they have all it takes to take the ring.
5. Name your GMOY and Why?
J: Habes of the Golden State Warriors. Like the point I stated earlier, he took a basically nothing team and made it into a championship contender almost immediately. I would probably say Minnesota GM would be second, but well behind IMO.
Duce: Aaron, and yes I'm on his nuts. I think it speaks for itself though. The team went from having a top 2 pick to being at the top of the conference. I also think he's going to do a great job in the playoffs as a manager though.
Nova: Jayborne. The acquisition of Jason Kidd has been huge. He hasn't put up staggering numbers, but he is exactly what this team needed. A veteran PG who knows how to lead a team, he's been efficient and he shuts down the opposition with his agressive defense. In addition, the off-season signing of Channing Frye was huge, as he's been an excellent player off the bench for them, and is my pick for 6th Man of hte Year. This is a team I could see making some noise in the playoffs, and it's because of the excellent job Jay has done.
Bluedevils: I gotta go with nova. While being set for the future, they still have the players to make a deep run into the playoffs. I think the smartest move he has made throughout the years is one he hasn't made, in keeping AK. The defense this guy gives you at the SF spot is invaluable.
MaarinX: IB4 if Philly stays that high. He made a great young team led by Carlos and they have
potential to start a dynasty very soon.
6. Which Conference is stronger East or West?
J: I would say West. It has more all-around better teams than does the East. When you go outside of the top 2 teams in the East, their is not really a team that scares you. In the West, the top 6 or so teams, can cause damage come playoff time, and this should make for great matchups in the West.
Duce: East. It has more established winning teams that are hard to beat. Their records are better at the top. I also honestly think the teams at the bottom are harder to beat than it would seem.
Nova: East. The East has 4 teams above .600. The West has 2. The East is much stronger up top, and there is a truly dominant team out East. Out West, it is parity central. The Warriors & Jazz are up top, but the lower seeds are also competitive teams in the Lakers & Spurs. Not to mention, if the Rockets can sneak in, they could make some noise. I do see the champion coming out of the West, but as of right now, the East is stronger
Bluedevils: The West has more good teams, but the East is significantly stronger at the top.
MaarinX: West definitely. East was never more weak then now with few top teams going trough rebuilding mode.
7. Which Division is the worst and why?
J: Atlantic no doubt. The Philadelphia 76ers are in 1st with a barely over .500 record while the rest of the teams are under .500 in their division. My Magic have been surging lately, but we still are under .500, which is unacceptable. Atlantic Division is brutal.
Duce: I know most say the Atlantic but I think it's the Pacific. Their weakest teams are the weakest teams around. They're not really on the "come-up" that much. The Suns and Lakers are kind of under achieving and have not faired well since last off season. The Blazers are no longer what they once were. The Sonics and Kings need to drastically improve. Even Golden State could use some interior help.
Nova: The Atlantic, and it's not even close. They have one team above .500. They have 2 of the 3 worst teams in the league. Enough said.
Bluedevils: The Atlantic, by far. Most of the division is in a rebuilding phase.
MaarinX: Atlantic without doubT ! There's Philly, and ? and ? And the rest.
8. GMs lately have been on the hot seat, who do you think is next to be fired? Who would replace him?
J: Clipps GM, Tigertecz. He has been adding absolutely no value as of late, and if I read correctly his last post was weeks ago. What's up with that? Ducky has been giving him way too much slack and needs to fire him. I believe CrazyMike if he wanted to would be hired as the New GM, but that is debatable.
Duce: I don't know. I think we all know who I think should be fired by now. I don't think it's my place to answer this. I like most of the GMs and Ducky will make the right decisions.
Nova: Prez. He's done nothing since acquiring Deron Williams. This team is 1-2 seasons behind where it should be, and it's because he has not been able to/refused to make the necessary trades to improve his team. As for who replaces him, as long as it's someone whose proven he's a good GM & is active, I'm fine with it.
Bluedevils: Sactown has a good foundation in Deron Williams and Kevin Martin, but their GM has shown a real lack of effort to go beyond that. Instead of being proactive, they sat and waited till their contracts expired, and in a competitive league such as UOSL, that's not a wise move. As to who I would replace him with, I'm not sure, but I'd like to see the GM activity/quality remain at a high level.
MaarinX: MagicGM. Dont like at all what he had done with this franchise, team without bright future for at least few more seasons.
Crazymike should get in. He was a GM in SLC, UOSL1 and he should get a chance here as well.
9. Who is the most successful franchise in your opinion in UOSL2 history?
J: Dan's Los Angeles Lakers. Although he is going through a rough stretch, he has a title to look back at. Right now he is a phase of possibly re-building but he should be able to rebuild a contender very soon.
Duce: San Antonio. Even though Andy is in no-man's land this year, his team has been to two finals, has always been a championship threat up until this point, and has 2 elite stars.
Nova: Even with their down season this year, the Spurs. They've made two Finals appearances and they've won the title once. Who knows whether they will be in a couple seasons, but as of right now, it's the Spurs.
Bluedevils: I don't think you can argue against San Antonio's two finals appearances, which include a ring. They might have fallen on hard times regarding the past few weeks, but that should not disregard the level of excellence they've played on over the past 3 seasons.
MaarinX: Its too early to say yet, but ill go with Raps just because they're always there battling hard in POs.
10. Who is the least successful?
J: Tigertecz Clippers. For this reason, he should be fired. He never does any trades, values players like anthony parker, way too highly. He is very inactive, and will never field a winner.
Duce: Sacramento. Prez might turn it around soon, I dunno, but they've been in cap hell from the beginning and have not been able to win games.
Nova: The Kings. There are a few teams with a worse record, but at least their making progress. The Kings are a mess. Deron Williams & Julian Wright are a nice core, but Kevin Martin is overpaid, and they've failed to acquire good youth in trades. They are just an awful team right now, and I don't see things changing unless Prez is fired.
Bluedevils: Darren Williams is a beast, but the lose progression and the misses on some draft picks make the Kings the least successful in my book.
MaarinX: Magic. That team really had huge potential, now they're stucked with oldies, no picks, no
great prospects, not an easy time for Orlando.
11. Last Question, if you could take over any team in UOSL2, which team would you want to run and why?
J: Golden State Warriors. Love a very young squad. It reminds me of my team, except they have developed much quicker and are in great shape.
Duce: Brooklyn. Yeah what a jerk answer but it's the truth. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's taking over somebody else's vision. I have an extremely unique way of doing things and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Nova: The Pacers, no doubt. The Howard-Oden froncourt is unreal, and they are 23 and 21 respectively, meaning, they have SEVERAL more seasons together in which they will dominate the league. Thaddeus Young also looks like an excellent young SF prospect, and Jrue Holliday could be their future at SG. Even if Kidd doesn't come back next offseason, they have an unbelievable young core, and they are who I would take.
Bluedevils: Utah. The blend of superstars in their prime and valuable youth make them an attractive organization to take over.
MaarinX: None ! Its Wizards or nothing !! But there's few teams and GM works that i like, Sixers,
Raptors and Lakers.
Thank you to everyone who Participated. This is another addition of UOSL2 Roundtable.
