Starting this off-season (The 2018 off-season), teams are allowed to front load contracts for certain players that meet particular requirements.
1) They must have bird years (3 or more years) on the player when the player is being resigned (can't be done in the middle of the contract).
2) It can't be used on a player that was signed to the MLE or LLE.
3) Contracts must have three or more seasons in length.
4) Contracts must be worth equal or greater then 15 million in total salary, anything less really is a waste of time
5) Also the front-loading rights can't be traded away in a deal (i.e. team A deals player A to team B for player B and the rights to front-load in the future).
Limit to this rule is once every three seasons. Also these rights don't carry over. For example if you went five seasons without front-loading, you don't have the option of doing it twice in a row. Once you did it in a particular off-season, you aren't able to use this option for the the following off-season or the season after that.
For example: Player ABC signs a max deal for seven years and you decide to front load him in 2018. You are unable to front-load any player in 2019 and 2020. With that said, that doesn't mean you can't acquire such a player via trade (includes sign and trade). But the team that does make the signing, loses the option of front-loading till the 2021 season if he front-loads the traded player in 2018.
Typical salary distribution for a player on a max deal with 1-7 years of experience with bird years at a 12.5% increase:
$12,500,000 $14,062,500 $15,625,000 $17,187,500 $18,750,000 $20,312,500 $21,875,000
The option of front-loading lets you have the 12.5 million come off the books in his final year. Once a player is signed, you only have till the end of free agency (usually to decide if you'd want that player front-loaded. If you are unable for whatever reason to send a message after your player has been signed, send a list to the commissioners with which players you want front-loaded with any stipulations you might have BEFORE free agency begins.
To clarify:
1) Front-loading can be done for both resignings during playoff time or signings during free agency.
2) The time to decide what player is front-loaded is before Sim 1.
3) Front-loading doesn't carry over if you missed it within five seasons.
Thanks to Ducky and Duce for helping me with this.
Any other questions feel free to ask away, either here or in this thread: uosl2.proboards45.com/v45index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3994&page=3
**Please make a thread in this forum if you wish to front-load. If you assume you wont be able to make it to the boards during the off-season period tell us which contracts you want front-loaded before you leave, send a message to me or the commish with any stipulations and please be clear.
*********GMs will have till Sim 1 to front-load a players contract.*****************
Once Ducky simmed Sim 1, too late. Also note that front-loading contracts can not be reversed once you made the thread.
