A look back at the 08 lottery:
1 - Eric Gordon SG 6'4'' 220 20 B- B C- B C- A (Minnesota Twolves)
9 Years later...
Eric Gordon SG 29 6'5'' 235 A- A- C A- C C
Eric is one of the studliest scorers in UOSL2 history. And he's just starting to have his best years scoring (thanks to the crappy pistons, haha). Can't ask for much more out of your #1 pick.
Grade: A+
Michael Beasley SF 6'10'' 235 19 B C+ C C+ C+ A (Miami Heat)
9 Years later...
Michael Beasley PF 28 6'10'' 238 A- B C+ B+ B+ C
Stud. He's a career 20-10 player. And although he's been struggling recently, he's still one of the best all around players you'll see.
Grade: A+
3 - O.J. Mayo PG 6'5'' 210 19 B- B- C+ C C- A (Philadelphia 76ers)
10 Years later...
O.J. Mayo PG 29 6'6'' 220 B- A- A- A- C C
All these three picks were pretty obvious. All were projected to be the top 3 picks. And now all 3 are studs. OJ is one of the best PGs around.
Grade: A+
4 - Thaddeus Young SF 6'8'' 225 20 B- B- C B- C A (Indiana Pacers)
9 Years later...
Thaddeus Young SF 30 6'9'' 234 B- A- C- B C C
Thad had a really bad TC after being signed to a big 4 year deal. But I'm looking at players in their prime here and what they've done in the past. Thad consistently put up 17-19ppg and 6rpg. He was always a player you could rely on and was a solid starter. I don't think he ever was a stud or allstar quality, but decent value at the #4 pick.
Grade: B
5 - Darren Collison PG 6'1'' 165 21 C B B+ B- D B (Golden State Warriors)
9 Years later...
Darren Collison PG 30 6'1'' 181 C A- B+ B F+ D
Collison had a very solid career. He started playing very early in his career and has been a starter since. In his prime, Collison had C A- A- B+ F+ C ratings. So he's definitely lived up to his potential. In a league full of good PGs, I don't think Collison ever got over the bar. It always seemed he was average even though his ratings were nice.
Grade: B
6 - Darrell Arthur PF 6'9'' 230 20 B C C- B- C A (Phoenix Suns)
9 Years later...
Darrell Arthur SF 29 6'9'' 234 B- C C- A- B C
Arthur has been a solid contributor in this league for quite a while. He's started nearly everywhere he's gone, but other than a few 14-8 seasons, Darrell hasn't been more than a 10-8 with starter minutes. I think he's been somewhat of a disappointment. After all, he did have nice rookie ratings, but his offense never improved, and outside of his defense, nothing really stands out about Arthur. Average pick.
Grade: C+
7 - Josh McRoberts PF 6'10'' 240 21 B C- C B- C B (Los Angeles Clippers)
8 Years later...
Josh McRoberts PF 29 6'8'' 228 B C- C- B- C+ C
McRoberts never really lived up to the hype. He improved a little of his rebounding and his offense, but he pretty much stayed the same for nearly a decade. Which isn't really a bad thing, but with the #7 pick, I'm sure the Clippers had more in mind. He was a good player off the bench. Below average pick.
Grade: C-
8 - Spencer Hawes C 7'0'' 250 20 B C- D+ C+ C A (Sacramento Kings)
9 Years later...
Spencer Hawes C 7'0'' 250 29 B- C C- B- B- C
Hawes was a bust. He was meant to be a bust, and he never had ratings better than B C C- B- B- C. After for nearly 4 years with the Kings, he never improved and kings let him walk. After that, he was on a different team every year. Not an absolutely crappy pick, but a big disappointment.
Grade: D+
9 - Chase Budinger SG 6'7'' 215 20 B- B+ C- C+ C- B (Orlando Magic)
10 Years later...
Chase Budinger SF 30 6'8'' 221 B A C A- C- C
For most these players, I had to go a year or 2 back to find their best ratings. But Chase's best ratings are his current ratings. Chase was a little bit of a slow bloomer. With the Magic he played a lot, but wasn't anything amazing, just a solid scorer. But as time went by, he improved his scoring a little each year, and his defense turned into gold. A great pick at #9. And too be honest, Chase wasn't supposed to be more than a B- A- C B C- C type player.
Grade: A
10 - Bill Walker SF 6'6'' 220 20 F- F- F- F- F- F (Memphis Grizzlies)
9 Years later...
?
I don't have his ratings but he was something like B+ C C- C+ C B as a rookie. He was declared a bust after his first TC, and from there it all went downhill. I don't think he was in the league for more than 4 years or something.
Grade: F
11 - Javaris Crittenton PG 6'5'' 198 20 C+ C+ B- B- C- B (New York Knicks)
7 Years later...
Javaris Crittenton PG 27 6'5'' 202 C B- B A- C- C
Crittenton's best ratings were like C B B+ A- C- C. But that was only for the about a year or so. The ratings you see above are more of what his ratings were like throughout his career. I think Crittenton was a solid choice. He was never really productive, but he played good defense, and a good backup PG/SG. Decent pick.
Grade: B-
12 - Ty Lawson PG 5'11'' 200 21 C+ C B C D A (New Jersey Nets)
10 Years later...
Ty Lawson PG 31 5'11'' 200 C+ C+ A B C- C
I swear, Lawson has had those ratings for about 7 years now. Lawson has been a very serviceable PG. He had some nice years with the Nets and Nuggets. Great value at #12.
Grade: A-
13 - Brook Lopez C 7'0'' 240 20 C+ C- D B- C+ A (Detroit Pistons)
9 Years later...
Brook Lopez C 30 7'1'' 250 C+ C- F+ A B D
I would have given Brook an A-, because he's progressed very nicely since his rookie season. But he hasn't done a whole lot in the league and started only a few seasons in his career. Brook is a great defender who rebounds nicely. Another nice pick late in the lotto.
Grade: B+
Top 5 Steals:
1 - #19 (1st Round) - Petteri Koponen PG 6'4'' 195 20 C+ B- C+ C- D+ A (Indiana Pacers)
8 Years later...
Petteri Koponen PG 28 6'4'' 191 C+ B+ A- C D+ D
Petteri was a really weird player. When he was drafted by the Pacers, he had exploded in TC, having like C+ B B C C- A ratings. Pacers thought he'd be their franchise PG, but after that he cooled down a bit and never lived up to his amazing first TC. I still think Koponen is great value at #19 in a draft. Nice pick by the Pacers.
2 - #22 (1st Round) - Kyle Weaver PG 6'5'' 195 22 C+ C C+ B C- B (Atlanta Hawks)
8 Years later...
Kyle Weaver PG 30 6'5'' 195 C+ C+ B+ A- C- D
Kyle was a fantastic pick at #22. I don't think anyone expected much from Weaver. Maybe a B+ or A- defender with C+'s everywhere else. But Kyle developed into a pretty good PG. His handles came along and he really turned the corner. C+ C+ A- A- ratings are really nice for a late first round pick. I think the Hawks were very pleased the way he turned out.
3 - #12 (1st Round) - Ty Lawson PG 5'11'' 200 21 C+ C B C D A (New Jersey Nets)
10 Years later...
Ty Lawson PG 31 5'11'' 200 C+ C+ A B C- C
Nice value that late in the lotto.
4 - #29 (1st Round) - Joseph Jones PF 6'9'' 250 23 B- C+ D+ C+ C C (Miami Heat)
8 Years later...
Joseph Jones PF 31 6'9'' 250 B+ B- C- C+ C+ C
Joseph Jones was drafted by Miami and a good 4-5 years there, after that he bounced around a bit and became a very solid player. He was sixth-man quality and played a lot of minutes off the bench. Definitely one of the best last first round picks we'll see.
5 - #14 (2nd Round) - Steven Hill C 7'0'' 250 23 C D D- B C D (Washington Wizards)
6 Years later...
Steven Hill C 31 7'0'' 254 C+ D+ F+ A- C+ C
A very good backup center. An amazing defender. Nice pick in the mid 2nd round. Nothing amazing, but he developed into a solid player.
Honorable mention: Jamont Gordon. Went from B- C+ C+ B- C C to B C+ B- A- C C.
Top 5 Busts:
1 - Chris Lofton (#15 Overall pick)
Then: Chris Lofton SG 6'2'' 200 23 C A- C C D+ C (Seattle Sonics)
Now: AT home watching TV.
I don't think he's a bust, because he was a 2nd round prospect. But this pick is so bad, it deserves to be #1 somewhere. Thanks shaun for the memories. His ratings never improved...
2 - Bill Walker (#10 Overall pick)
Then: Bill Walker SF 6'6'' 220 20 B+ C C- B- C C (Memphis Grizzlies)
Now: Gone.
His ratingsd went to like B C C- B- C C after one TC, and only got worse after that.
3 - Spencer Hawes (#8 Overall pick)
Then: Spencer Hawes C 7'0'' 250 20 B C- D+ C+ C A (Sacramento Kings)
Now: Spencer Hawes C 30 7'0'' 250 B- C C- C+ B- C
Slut.
4 - DaJuan Summers (#16 Overall pick)
Then: DaJuan Summers SF 6'8'' 235 19 C+ B- C- C C A (Washington Wizards)
Now: Dead.
B- B- C- C+ C B was as good as he got. After a little while in the league, he disappeared. Not a good pick in the mid first. Danilo Gallinari, Petteri Koponen, Jamont Gordon, and Kyle Weaver
5 - Josh McRoberts (#7 Overall pick)
Then: Josh McRoberts PF 6'10'' 240 21 B C- C B- C B (Los Angeles Clippers)
Now: Josh McRoberts PF 6'10'' 243 31 B- D+ C- C+ C D
He looks worse now then he actually was for most his career. Not a bigtime bust, but for being the #7 pick, he should have been better.
Enjoy!
