A look back at the 08 lottery:
1 - Minnesota Twolves - DeAndre Jordan C 7'0'' 240 21 B- D+ D B B- A
Now:
DeAndre Jordan PF 30 7'0'' 250 B+ D D+ B A- D
DeAndre was really hyped up coming into the 2009 draft. Everyone knew he'd go #1. It was just a matter of who'd get him. iflip was lucky enough to land him. But DeAndre had about 5-6 years of mediocrity, where he made little improvements and was a B- D D+ B B+ C player for a while. He started finally improving with the Raptors, and now with the Grizzlies, he's having his best year with 22ppg and 12rpg. For all the hype and hope put into this guy, he was somewhat of a disappointment. A good pick, but not at #1.
Grade: B
2 - Utah Jazz - Derrick Rose PG 6'5'' 210 20 B- C+ C+ B- C- A
Now:
Derrick Rose PG 29 6'5'' 215 B A- B B- C- C
Derrick has panned out pretty well since getting drafted by the Jazz. After spending 5 years with the Jazz, and starting to play really well in his last couple years, he was dealt to the Raptors. Rose had some big years there averaging about 23-24ppg for a few years. But now in his prime with the Grizz and now the Cavs, he has been unimpressive. His stats are very average. But still, he was the best choice at #2, so nova gets a good grade.
Grade: A-
3 - Golden State Warriors - Patrick Patterson PF 6'8'' 235 20 C C- D+ B+ B- A
Now:
Patrick Patterson PF 29 6'9'' 247 C D+ D+ A- A C
Right after being picked, along with Gay and JR Smith were dealt to the Jazz for Kobe Bryant. Even though PP was a lot smaller than guys he matched up against, PP was a tough player, and played good defense and could rebound over anyone. I love players like PP, because although they don't do anything offensively, they get the job done and help your team win. A career 11.5rpgg and 2.5bpg player is a good player. He's been a starter since day one, and he's still a starter now.
Grade: A-
4 - Philadelphia 76ers - Greg Monroe PF 6'10'' 230 19 C+ C- D+ C+ B A
Now:
Greg Monroe PF 28 6'11'' 242 B+ D+ F+ B+ A- C
I know his ratings look sexy now, but since he didn't do crap for the first 5 years of his career, I feel like he doesn't deserve that A- grade. I do think, however, that the sixers gave up on Monroe to quickly. They wanted him to be their franchise guy, but he was a slow bloomer. So the Bulls acquired him from Philly, and now he's having one of his best years. 19ppg and 11rpg. Him and DeAndre had very bizzare careers.
Grade: B+
5 - Brooklyn Nets - Tyreke Evans SG 6'5'' 200 19 C+ B+ C C D+ A
Now:
Tyreke Evans SF 28 6'6'' 222 B A C A- C- C
Easily the best pick in this draft. The first 4 guys picked in front of Tyreke aren't at the same level. Tyreke will be one of the best scorers in UOSL2 history when it's all said and done. Great pick by duce.
Grade: A+
6 - Seattle Sonics - Al-Farouq Aminu SF 6'8'' 210 19 B- C- C B+ C A
Now:
Al-Farouq Aminu SF 28 6'8'' 220 B+ C C- A- C+ C
Solid pick at this point. Because they guys taken after him all struggled to do anything in UOSL2. So although Aminu never did a whole lot in his career, his ratings are still solid and he's a good defender.
Grade: B-
7 - New York Knicks - Kevin Love C 6'9'' 250 19 B C C C C+ A
Now:
Kevin Love PF 28 6'10'' 256 B C C B- B C
Another late bloomer. Wasn't much until he had a sick TC and finally started playing ball. A very solid backup PF/C. Could start on some teams. Decent pick.
Grade: C+
8 - Sacramento Kings - Donte Greene PF 6'10'' 220 20 B- C+ C- C C+ A
3 years ago (he's not in the league anymore):
Donte Greene PF 6'10'' 220 26 B- C C C C+ C
Bust. After drafting a bust in Spencer Hawes, the Kings bad luck continues with Greene. This isn't F worthy, because at least Donte Greene survived for a while. Greene wasn't meant to be a bust actually. In my sim trials, he ended up like B B- C C B- C. But this was not the case in uosl2.
Grade: D
9 - Indiana Pacers - Bud Mackey PG 6'4'' 195 19 B- C C+ C D+ A
Now:
long gone
Bud busted all over the place. This guy was out of the league in I think 4 years. He was meant to be a bust, and Jay got lucky.
Grade: F
10 - Washington Wizards* - Paul Harris SG 6'4'' 220 22 B- C C B- C A
Now:
Paul Harris SG 31 6'4'' 220 C+ C C+ B+ C- C
Paul Harris was an A- defender for almost all his career. He's still in this league because he can play defense. For being a lotto pick though, I think the Wizards were expecting a little more.
Grade: C
11 - Miami Heat - Samardo Samuels C 6'9'' 240 19 B D- C- C C+ B
Now:
Samardo Samuels PF 28 6'10'' 249 B+ D C- C+ C+ C
Although Samuels didn't improve a whole lot. He's been a very useful player for many teams. He's started a whole season for 4 different teams. A guy who can put up 12-15ppg as a non-option sounds solid to me.
Grade: C+
12 - Los Angeles Clippers - Ed Davis PF 6'8'' 225 19 C+ D+ C- B- B- B
Last year(Cuz he had a bad Tc this year):
Ed Davis PF 28 6'8'' 225 C+ C- D+ B+ B+ D
Considering how many players didn't pan out late in the lottery, I think Ed was a great pick for tiger. Ed had a long career. Although he averaged usually 7ppg and 9rpg, he started over 600 games for the clippers and was an important piece for their big time runs in the playoffs (including 2 finals appearances). He may not have put up the biggest stats, but one of the best role players you could ask for.
Grade: B+
13 - Atlanta Hawks - J.J. Hickson C 6'10'' 230 20 C+ D+ D+ C+ C A
Now:
J.J. Hickson C 29 6'11'' 250 B D+ D+ A C+ D
JJ was a big time steal by jah. He had a big TC and from there on out he started blooming into a fine center. Has put up 11-12ppg and 9rpg consistently every season. Also a big time shot blocker usually gathering at least 2 a game. Not quite an A+, but definitely a great pick at 13.
Grade: A
Top 4 Steals:
1 - #18(1st Round) - Golden State Warriors - Marreese Speights PF 6'10'' 250 22 B- C- D C+ C B
Now:
Marreese Speights C 31 6'10'' 257 B+ D+ F+ B- B+ C
Big time steal here. Speights played 4 years for the Warriors and became a pretty nice looking player. The Raptors gave him a big contract in FA only to trade him after averaging 20ppg and 10rpg for the Raptors in his first 20-30 games with Toronto. Speights had a few 19-11 seasons with the Sonics. He has settled down a bit now that he's with the Kings. He's accepted the role of rebounding more instead of being one of their scoring options. Still though, 15ppg and 11rpg isn't too shabby.
2 - #13 (1st Round) - Atlanta Hawks - J.J. Hickson C 6'10'' 230 20 C+ D+ D+ C+ C A
Now:
J.J. Hickson C 29 6'11'' 250 B D+ D+ A C+ D
Sure he was a lotto pick, but I most people were questioning the pick and if JJ deserved to go that high. Obviously they were wrong.
3 - #23 (1st Round) - Los Angeles Lakers - Damion James SF 6'8'' 230 21 C+ D+ D+ C+ C+ A
Now:
Damion James SF 30 6'8'' 230 B+ C C B+ C+ C
When a late first rounder is better than the overall #6 pick, you know you got good value for this guy. James was actually meant to be a steal. He had 99 potential. I thought he'd end up like A- C- C- A- B- or something. He still turned out pretty nice, but nothing more than a solid starter.
4 - #17 (1st Round) - New York Knicks - Nick Calathes PG 6'5'' 190 20 C+ B- B- C+ D+ B
Now:
Nick Calathes PG 29 6'5'' 194 B- C+ A- B C- C
I don't know if nick is a 'steal' because with those ratings, I'd expect him to turn out to what he is now. But still though, the Knicks did a good job of snatching him while he was falling in the draft. He's turned out to be a very solid player. Although he hasn't been able to help the Knicks much since Crater went down. Nevertheless, still a good pick.
Top 4 Busts:
1 - Bud Mackey (#9 Overall pick)
Then: Bud Mackey PG 6'4'' 195 19 B- C C+ C D+ A (Pacers)
Now: Out of the league.
2 - Donte Greene (#8 Overall pick)
Then: Donte Greene PF 6'10'' 220 20 B- C+ C- C C+ A (Kings)
Now: Out of the league.
3 - Austin Freeman (#15 Overall pick)
Then: Austin Freeman SG 6'4'' 210 20 B- B- C- C D+ A (Clippers)
Now: Out of the league.
He was supposed to be a big time scorer. Never did shit.
4 - Dominique Sutton (#14 Overall pick)
Then: Dominique Sutton SF 6'5'' 200 20 B C- C C+ C B (Mavs)
Now: Out of the leauge.
Stuck around for a little while, but never did much. Bust.
A look back at the 08 lottery:
1 - Minnesota Twolves - DeAndre Jordan C 7'0'' 240 21 B- D+ D B B- A
Now:
