2020-21 UOSL2's Most Overpaid Players (Eastern Conference) Edition
By. C.C. Christian
Here is a list of the most overpaid players in the UOSL2 (Eastern Conference) right now. Some may deserve what they are being paid, some may not. Well actually, you can judge for yourself.
Lets begin.
Dre Kalo C $15,625,000 + $17,187,500 + $18,750,000 + $20,312,500 + $21,875,000
Total = $93,750,000
Dre Kalo was a former #1 pick in 2014 who many thought would turn out to become a beast. After 6 seasons in the league, Kalo has become a great scorer and a solid rebounder but other than that, the rest of his game is mediocre and he hasn’t really proven to become a great center that many believed he would become right now. At 7’1” 250, he can’t even block a shot for his life. But thankfully he’s only 25 but his ratings has been declining ever since his rookie year. Now when you look at his ratings and how much he is making right now, I’m not really positive if Kalo will ever do anything else other than score and rebound. Will his contract be worth to helping his team get far in the Playoffs? Kalo could just be playing for stats and showing off the money to the world.
Greg Oden C $22,750,000 + $24,500,000 + $26,250,000
Total = $73,500,000
Oden was worth the max during his seasons with Indiana. But after receiving the max from Utah and getting shipped to Brooklyn, Oden began to decline especially considering how old he is now and how much his scoring has gone down. Thankfully he still can rebound and block shots but that’s all he is worth now. $73 million for a guy just to rebound and block shots. Scary huh? The Nets sure wished he was still a 18 PPG scorer but now it seems like Oden is reaching below 14 PPG status. His potential and age right now can only make his scoring worse.
Jayvaughn Pinkston PF $17,500,000 + $18,750,000
Total = $36,250,000
Yikes, Nets has another overpaid player in Jayvaughn Pinkston. It’s sad that J.P. never panned out since his rookie year. After receiving the max by Memphis a couple seasons ago, J.P. has done nothing but play for mediocre stats for what he’s being paid compared to others who are worth that much. A tweener forward with no outside game is just terrible for a guy in his max contract. J.P. hasn’t lived up to his contract so bad that his best season was just last season when he averaged 14/10 as an option. Overall, J.P. is averaging only 10 and 8 while making $36 million.
Tyreke Evans SF $19,250,000 + $21,000,000 + $22,750,000 + $24,500,000 + $26,250,000
Total = $113,750,000
Are we seriously still on the Nets? Yikes. Okay, Evans might be the least overpaid player on his team since he is one of the greatest scorers that UOSL2 has ever seen and will probably end up as the best ever. But stats aside, Evans contract is just bloated and way too long. Making over $100 million for a guy just to score night in and night out? Sure he puts up high %’s each night too, but the guy has not carried his team to a title yet no matter how great a scorer he is. And now at the age of 30, there are questions if Evans can keep this up and finally carry his team to another Finals appearance and winning a title for the Nets. Otherwise, he’s just making all the money to break scoring records rather than not lead his team to the promise land.
Trevor Lacey SG $17,187,500 + $18,750,000 + $20,312,500 + $21,875,000
Total = $78,125,000
Surprise, surprise, no more Nets. Now onto another team with an overpaid player. His name is Trevor Lacey. Now how did Orlando get him? Well he was maxed in Toronto then shipped to Orlando for straight up expirings and now Orlando is stuck with a guy who is just averaging 12 ppg. His contract is just horrible. I’m not sure if Orlando did the right choice to bring in an undersized SG who is making the max and put up 12 PPG while shooting below 44% from the field. Sure Lacey can pass and play defense some, but overall, the guy isn’t worth $78 million for the next 4 years especially if you’re only putting up a low 12 PPG in 39 MPG. Sorry Trevor.
Andre Iguodala SG $33,075,000
Total = $33,075,000
I wanted to add Iggy on this list because it’s still hysterical about how he’s still hanging around in Philly after receiving the FULL max contract by Memphis SEVEN years ago. Ever since he got paid and shipped to Philly, Iggy became so injury prone that he couldn’t help his team any longer, which forced him to sit and watch at home while grubbing on Philadelphia Famous Philly Cheeseteaks. Although he’s finally at the end of his contract, he’s still not worth $33 million especially when he has declined so much. He’s still averaging 20 PPG, but it’s Philly. When his contract is done, Iggy could retire and perhaps work at Grand Olde Cheeseteak just across the Arena. Right now, Iggy is still labeled Overpaid until he is officially done.
Kevin Durant SF $24,375,000 + $26,406,250 + $28,437,500 + $30,468,750
Total = $109,687,500
It’s quite disappointing to see a Great player to never win a championship. Durant is a good example. After many seasons with Memphis and Utah where he appeared in the Playoffs every year, Durant has never won a title. After suffering a huge injury during the Conf. Finals with Utah a couple seasons ago, Durant was maxed then shipped to Cleveland, hoping to revive from that injury and win a title in Cleveland. But it’s still has not happen for Kevin and it doesn’t look like it will ever happen anytime soon. Just like Tyreke Evans, Kevin Durant is one of those great scorers in UOSL to never take his team to the promise land. And as it looks right now, Kevin will be making over $20 million each year just to play through a season and make or break the Playoffs again, until his contract finally ends and then labeled as just a Great scorer in UOSL2.
Michael Ramey PF $7,472,020 +8,094,688 + $8,717,356 + $9,340,025
Total = $33,624,089
I’m not sure what happen here, but paying a 2nd rounder over $30 million who isn’t that good? Horrible move by the Warriors who gave him that much and Detroit taking his deal when he got traded there. All he’s done is average 5 PPG. I guess the two teams who liked the deal he got was hoping he would explode in training camps. But that did not happen and I don’t think Ramey will ever live up to that contract, ever. Ramey must be the HAPPIEST 2nd rounder alive, especially when he doesn’t have to do much.
Justin Brooks PF $13,627,500 + $14,763,125 + $15,898,750 + $17,034,375
Total = $61,323,750
I do not know a lot about Brooks, but based on his performance, 12 PPG and 9 RPG is not worth $60 million a year. Miami drafted this guy in the 1st round in 2014 then gave him the max and later shipped to Indiana. Last season was Brooks best performance when he averaged 15 and 10. Maybe Jay sees something in him and thinks he is worth $60 million and since he’s only 27? If Brooks can improve beyond last season, then maybe, just maybe he’ll be worth that much. But right now, I don’t think so.
Doron Lamb SG $16,250,000 + $17,500,000 + $18,750,000
Total = $52,500,000
Another overpaid player on Indiana is Doron Lamb. Although he's a 18 PPG scorer in his career, he just doesn't help his team much to get far in the Playoffs. Making over $50 million just to score and play d but not really help your team succeed makes him overpaid, especially when he is in the middle of a max deal that was given to him a couple seasons back and now Pacers are stuck with him for three more years. Lamb isn't THAT bad of a player, but IF only he could do much more but just to shoot outside and play defense, then he wouldn't be on this list.
Michael Beasley PF $22,343,750 + $24,375,000 + 26,406,250 + $28,437,500 + $28,437,500 $30,468,750
Total = $132,031,250
This is probably the most overpaid player on this list. No doubt Michael Beasley is a GREAT player, but getting paid over $20 million a year over the age of 30? I’m iffy on that, especially if Beasley can no longer take his team to the Playoffs. Beasley couldn’t even take his team to the Playoffs last season and I’m not sure if he can do it ever again by himself. Unlike Evans and Durant, Beasley does have one title but stats and titles aside, Beasley is still overpaid no matter how great he is. Being maxed two times in your career must feel good for a player like Beasley, but if you don’t carry your team to the Playoffs when you’re making the max, you’re overpaid.
Bernard Sullivan PF $15,000,000 + $16,250,000 + $17,500,000 + $18,750,000
Total = $67,500,000
Oh my, what have the Bucks done. Not only they have the most overpaid player in the Eastern Conference, but they have another overpaid player in Sullivan. Sullivan has been a Buck his entire career, but after one great season, Sullivan began to decline after he was paid the max. Sullivan is still fairly young but if you’re in your max contract and tanked a training camp so bad, , you’re overpaid for what you’re worth now. Sullivan is still a double-double guy who can block shots like crazy, but seriously?
B C C- A- C+ C
OVERPAID
Andrew Bynum C $26,250,000
Total = $26,250,000
Bynum was once a double double machine. But ever since crazymike paid him the max contract, everything literally went down hill for the guy. He declined so much that he went from starter to seeing the bench last season, while being paid over $20 million a year! Toronto is so FORTUNATE that Bynum expires after this season and that is basically what he is worth now. There's just no reason why he is worth that much money and it was crazy paying the guy that much in the first place. Bynum could probably be the worst overpaid player in his contract year.
Rashad Wattie PG $13,750,000 + $15,000,000 + $16,250,000 + $17,500,000 + $18,750,000
Total = $81,250,000
Ooo, maxed too soon probably? Thankfully, Wattie is still very young, but averaging only 7 PPG and only 4 APG over 5 seasons in the UOSL, and making max money already? I’m not too sure about that one. I just hope Wattie gets a lot of time in Toronto and pans out right so he’ll finally be worth the max. But right now, nope.
