Washington (AP)
Depressing and horrifying news has occurred today. The Washington Wizards private team plane lost all power while in flight this morning. No person aboard the plane survived. This includes the team’s entire roster, coaching staff, and training staff. Also on the flight was the team owner.
This of course, was easily the most terrible moment in the history of professional sports as we know it. The families and many friends of the people involved, including UOSL employees have been informed. There is no telling how the league may recover from this tragic incident.
However, the - perhaps insensitive - executives in the UOSL league office have made an official statement on the matter.
“On this very sad day, the Washington Wizards and the UOSL have suffered a great loss. We send out our condolences to the families and friends. We also are looking into the facts of today’s events… But the show must go on. And as a result of the imbalance of the current league structure, that is the need for a 29th team, we will have an expansion team in the city of Charlotte. They will be called the Charlotte Bobcats. Their new general manager will be a man they call “20”.”
This obviously has come as a shock to many. It was almost as if the UOSL was looking for a reason to start a new franchise. And regardless of the sorrow that should be filling the league on this day, they have used this moment to jump on the opportunity. To add to that, they have named an inexperienced general manager to run this franchise.
Controversy is the word, to say the least. Time will tell how this turn of events will effect UOSL. One thing is for sure, the Washington Wizards, the first ever championship organization in UOSL history and the devastating news of today will not be long forgotten.
