The previous two weeks of the season saw a pair of forwards from the Central Division (Chicago's Lebron James and Milwaukee's Michael Beasley) capture player of the week honors. The seventh week of season saw a different theme as yet a guard from a tough midwest division capture the individual honor. For the second time in his already great career, Houston's Kenny Boynton won the player of the week honor to help lead his team in this three team chase for the divisional title and perhaps for a championship.

The good news for Houston fans was that their franchise player was playing at an entire different level than nearly anyone else in the league. Averaging 40.8 minutes over a five game span, Kenny had every aspect of his game working as he averaged 33.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting a ridiculous 55 percent from the field along with 93.5 percent from the free throw line. While the fans had a lot to cheer for with regard to Kenny, the team also found great success during this period as they went 5-0 in week 7 with what could be described as a pair of surprising wins on the road.
To start off the week, in a game featured a pair of elite guards matched up against one another as Kenny found himself across the court from Dominic Cheek. Although it appears that Cheek may have got the better of the individual matchup with his 33 points and 6 rebounds it was Kenny (with a big game from Chase) who led his team to a key victory. Coming off the win, the Rockets stayed out at home in the lone star state to welcome the Portland Trailblazers. Sticking with the good news/bad news theme, Kenny continued to have his offensive game working as he posted a game high of 38 points in 40 minutes of action.
With a pair of wins thus far in the week where the divisional could come down to just a game or two, Houston hoped to continue the insurgence on day 33 with an out of the conference rebuilding Boston Celtics squad. While this game was Kenny's "worst" offensive game of the week with "only" 27 points, the Rockets were able to use their tough defense to avoid a losing streak and to continue on their winning ways.
