Other teams are doing it too...lol The next closest payroll was only 2/3 rds of the Yankees payroll! The NFL has the best financial structure in sports. And guess what a NY owner was one of the main figures in getting it implemented. The salary cap should have been put in place long ago. The players union has way to much power. The game is played on an uneven playing field. Even so the Yankees will be a 1st round exit. Teams have money, Carl Pohlad is the richest owner in baseball with 4.4 billion dollars...but he doesn't want to pay Santana or Hunter. These owners are looking to profit off the luxury tax- not spend money.

Thanks for proving my point Dan! In a weird backwards way you agreed that the playing field is not even when you said "they have to work a lot harder at it" And even playing field is everyone having an EVEN shot. Not one team having to work 100 times harder to get their shot. The main thing is the Yankees can afford to overpay guys and make huge mistakes and just buy their way out of it. The Yankees can pay CC 23 mil a year and if he starts sucking next year they just call it a loss and buy the next player. If the Pirates did that their franchise would be in serious trouble for a long long time.
There will not be a cap in baseball until there is another lockout. And that will tarnish the game even more than the last one did.

As I said. Baseball is a joke. I will go to opening day this year to boo the hell out of Teixeira and that is about it.
And what are you talking about with the other owners have money crap? Are owners supposed to lose money running a team? Who cares how much money someone has. It is all about how much money they make. Football shares their revenue evenly and they understand the true nature of the buisness.
The big market teams would not make any money if it wasn't for the small market teams.

Jaha, by the way bleacher seats are 25 cents opening day and the tier reserve are $1.10 opening day. So go cry about it as the yankees are the only team in baseball doing a favor for the fans during the weak economy.

paying out half a billion dollars on three players does not help the weak economy. You are paying those salaries.
It is just a sad that a thing that started out with such great intentions (Unions) has helped destroy so much. It has simply ruined MLB. It has ruined American automakers. Baseball might stay popular in NY, Boston and LA...even Chicago. It has been dying around the rest of the country though and it will only get worse.
NBA Finals are in June and NFL preseason starts at the end of July. Heck Wimbledon is at the beginning of Jully. I think we are good to go.

There will always be baseball fans. The yankees have been doing this forever, they are not ruining the game. Without the yankees, baseball would not be what it is. It would be a dying sport. At least the yankees make it interesting. Hard to say for some of these franchises.

Umm it is a dying sport. Baseball was #1 . Now..
NFL, NBA, NCAAF, NCAAB have all passed it.
The thing that actually made baseball what it was is the fact that there were loyaties. Kids could grow up watching their hometown team and they would know the players.

I don't care about your opinion which sport is better, the fact is baseball beats the NBA any day. Show me where you get this information from then we can talk...I do not buy that baseball is behind all of those sports. How can you prove it? The only way is ratings. NFL of course is number 1, no argument there.
