Baseball ratings have been horrible recently. The world series used to be as big as the Super Bowl.
Ratings wise :
NFL NCAA-F MLB NBA/NCAA-B
Keep in mind that this is for postseason. MLB used to get 3 to 4 times more ratings than the NBA and NCAA-B now they get about 20-30% higher ratings. And MLB is going down and the two basketballs are going up.
There are the facts.

yankees are the only team in baseball doing a favor for the fans during the weak economy. paying out half a billion dollars on three players does not help the weak economy. You are paying those salaries. That's false dichotomy and you know it. I said yankees are helping their fans during a weak economy, i.e. by lowering ticket prices. No where did I mention the yankees spending money help the totality of the economy.

Jah is absolutely right with this... based on the Harris Polls baseball has seen the biggest decrease in popularity out of all the sports... the second sport with the biggest decline is basketball
These polls are from 1985-2005... Baseball has lost 9% of it's audience while Pro Football has increased by 9%, College Football by 3% and Nascar by 6%
I'm surprised you didn't mention Nascar because it's really
NFL Nascar College Football MLB College Basketball NBA

Well I don't live in the south.......That is why I didn't mention Nascar.
Just so everyone knows. The Yankees are doing that for the Opening day of the new stadium. They are doing the same prices as the opening day of the old stadium for bleechers.
They ARE NOT doing it for Opening Day of the baseball season. This is a spring training deal.

I said opening day in my post because you mentioned you were going to that game, do you really have selective reading?

WTF...I don't live in New York. Opening day does not have anything to do with spring training to me. April 6th is the first full day of the MLB season.

Jaha, can you explain why Carl Pohlad is the richest owner in baseball and puts out the worst product on the field and get the most money from the luxury tax?

Jaha, can you explain why David Glass, President and CEO of Walmart and earns more revenue a year than the Yankees, has had one of the worst teams in the last decade?

Jaha, I find it absurd you hate the Yankees for wanting to spend money and playing within the rules. If that is the case you should equally hate every other team in the league for refusing to spend their money. This is the fault of the owners, I don't see owners complaining about the yankees spending too much. Want to know why? They get a share of the dough when the tax comes in at the end of the season to add to their large profits.
They don't care about winning, they look at baseball as merely as a business venture to make money.

Huh? The Luxury Tax in MLB is a joke man. 26.9 mil from the Yankees and 1.3 mil from the Tigers? That is it.
Is baseball a buisness? yes or no
If you answered yes then...
What is the goal of a buisness? To make money or to lose money?
If you answered "to make money" then.....
What in the world does it matter how much a person started with? The goal is to make money. If he pocketed 4.4 billion in profits then we'd have something to talk about. His bank account has nothing to do with this though. Gross - Costs = Profits. Seeing that all major league team owners are partners those numbers should all be even. The Yankees might gross more, however if they didn't have any partners they would not gross a damn thing. It should be an even playing field like every other sport.

I'm talking about professional/collegiate sports in the United States of America. MLS doesn't come close. It is growing at a better rate than MLB though!
