Today I will look at the all of the steals in the 2nd round of previous UOSL4 drafts. Who extended the right players? Who cut the wrong players? Your questions, answered, RIGHT NOW!
2011 Draft:
#34 pick:
Los Angeles Clippers - Kris Joseph SF 6'7'' 207 23 B C+ C- B C- B
Dallas Mavericks- Kris Joseph SF 6'7'' 207 31 B B- C- B C- D
#52 pick:
Toronto Raptors: Tibor Pleiss C 7'1'' 210 22 C+ C D C+ C A
OKC Thunder- Tibor Pleiss C 32 7'1'' 210 B- C F+ B- C+ C
Joseph started his career hot after a few good TC's but never really lived up to this ratings. He still had a good career for a 2nd rounder, but nothing compared to Tibor Pleiss. Pleiss played a big part in helping the Raptors for around a decade. He then joined the Celtics and provided them with the much needed shot-blocking though they came up short in his time with the. Today, still at 2.3bpg with the Thunder, he's chasing his first ring.
Tibor Pleiss, selected 52nd overall in 2011 draft, has had successful stints with Raptors and Celtics
2012 Draft:
#30 pick:
Atlanta Hawks- Deandre Liggins SG 6'6'' 180 22 B C+ C B- D+ C
Atlanta Hawks- Deandre Liggins SG 31 6'6'' 180 B+ B C- A- C- D
#33 pick:
Dallas Mavericks- Erving Walker PG 5'8'' 140 22 C B+ B C+ D- C
Golden State Warriors- Erving Walker PG 31 5'8'' 145 C A B B D D
It's funny to see how different the careers of these 2 players have been. Erving Walker's best years were his first two in the league with the 76ers and Thunder, but has been a role player since. On the other hand, Liggins never reached over 7ppg until joining the Heat 3 years ago. One bloomed early and fell off, and the other started slow and came on strong. Walker returned to form last year and played a key role off the bench for the contending Warriors. Liggins, as the 6th man for Raptors last year, helped them to a league-best 70 wins! This year he signed with the Hawks and looks to have for success. Two great 6th men in the 2nd round in this draft
Liggins has come on late in his career to become a 2nd round steal!
2013 Draft:
#36 pick:
Atlanta Hawks - Brandon Triche PG 6'4'' 198 22 C+ C+ B- C+ D C
Free Agent - Brandon Triche PG 6'4'' 198 31 C+ C+ A- B+ F+ C
This is one of the weakest draft in regard to depth. You know that it's weak when the only 2nd round steal in the entire draft is a guy who is currently in Free Agency. Triche has had a solid career for the 36th pick, but has been nothing more than a backup on a solid team or a starter on a rebuilding team.
Weak class represented by garbage player.
2014 Draft:
Pick #32- :
Atlanta Hawks- Trey Zeigler SG 6'5'' 195 22 C+ B- C B C- B
Chicago Bulls- Trey Zeigler SG 30 6'5'' 195 B A- C B+ C- D
Pick #42:
Philadelphia 76ers- Cameron Clark SF 6'7'' 180 22 C B- D B C+ B
Toronto Raptors- Cameron Clark PF 29 6'7'' 180 C+ B+ D- B+ B- C
Trey Ziegler and Cameron Clark were the only two second round steals in this draft. Clark has had an amazing defensive career averaging nearly 2 blocks per game in 18 minutes. Today with the Raptors he is a key part of their team. Ziegler has been switching from bench player to starter his entire career. His best year was with the blazers when he put up 18ppg. He was recently signed with the Bulls where he put up 20+ppg as the main guy. These have been two guys that have contributed a lot to competing teams.
Trey Ziegler looking for a breakout year with the Bulls
2015 Draft:
Pick #30
Boston Celtics - Jaquan Lyle SG 6'6'' 192 19 C+ C+ C C+ C A
Miami Heat - Jaquan Lyle SG 26 6'6'' 192 B- A- C B+ C C
Celtics made a real solid pick here with Lyle. He developed nicely his first few years, but never really played up to his stats. He's been a very good defender throughout his career, but hasn't been able to find steady minutes because of his lacking offensive production. Still a good player
Pick #44
Phoenix Suns - Nnanna Egwu C 6'10'' 235 21 B- C C B+ C+ D
Detroit Pistons - Nnanna Egwu PF 28 6'10'' 235 A- C C- A- B+ C
What can you say about Egwu? Slowly but surely he has improved his game year after year to become one of the best PF's in the league. Not much to say here.
Pick #48
Houston Rockets - Rashad Madden SF 6'5'' 180 22 C+ B- C B C B
Cleveland Cavaliers - Rashad Madden SF 29 6'5'' 180 B- A- C+ A C D
Rashad Madden broke out in his first TC's and looked to be an absolute steals after settling with the Lakers. He cooled off a little and found it hard to get minutes on competing teams. Personally, I think he's a 20ppg scorer, but some teams really misused him. Either way, he's a steal and looks to help the Cavs after a great TC
Pick #52
Miami Heat (CUT) - Michael Reynolds PF 6'10'' 249 22 B+ C C- C C D
Boston Celtics Michael Reynolds PF 29 6'10'' 249 B C D C C+ D
Reynolds was known to be one of the most ready players coming into the draft, but still managed to slip all the way to #52. Finally, biggie selected Reynolds but cut him shortly thereafter! MISTAKE! Reynolds contributed right away by winning ROTY and making an all-league team in his first year. Since then, he's won a 6th man award and help the C's win the championship. STEAL
This ended up being the best draft by far. Each player has made huge contributions to competing/championship teams.
Egwu leads one of the strongest 2nd round class in UOSL4 history
2016 Draft:
Pick #32
Utah Jazz - Savon Goodman SF 6'8'' 215 22 B- C- D+ B+ C+ B
Utah Jazz - Savon Goodman SF 28 6'8'' 215 B C- D- A B- C
Pick #35
Detroit Pistons - Mike Gesell PG 6'2'' 185 22 C B+ B C+ D- C
San Antonio Spurs - Mike Gesell PG 28 6'2'' 185 C B B+ B D+ C
Goodman and Gesell lead another crappy 2nd round draft class. Goodman has been stuck behind Gilchrist throughout his career, but I'm confident he's nothing more than a solid backup. Gesell has had some success @ PG and has been able to sick around because of his efficiency. Overall, a very weak class.
You know the 2nd round was really crappy when this guy ends up being the best
2018 Draft:
Pick #45
Washington Wizards - Tanveer Bhullar C 7'5'' 350 22 B- D+ F+ B- C+ C
Washington Wizards - Tanveer Bhullar C 26 7'5'' 350 B+ C D B- B+ C
Jah, you my friend are a beast. Bhullar probably has been the best 2nd round steal in UOSL4 history. Egwu might have a case, but Bhullar's career averages are unparalleled. From Day 1 he has dominated the league averaging 18/11 his rookie season. Jah made a great decisions by extending him before his breakout TC and it payed off. Bhullar makes this one of the best classes by himself
Best 2nd round draftee in UOSL4 history?
2019 Draft:
Pick #30
San Antonio Spurs- Khadeem Lattin PF 6'8'' 235 21 B- C D+ B- C B
Portland Trailblazers - Khadeem Lattin PF 24 6'8'' 235 A- C+ C- B C+ B
Pick #43
Washington Wizards - Mike Dyson PF 6'8'' 229 21 B- C- C B- C+ B
Washington Wizards - Mike Dyson PF 24 6'8'' 229 B C- C B+ B- B
saga and Jah make another appearance in drafting steals. Lattin was huge for the Spurs in his first couple years providing offense, rebounding, and defense but after a couple mediocre TC's he found it hard getting minutes. He looks to revamp his career with the Blazers. Dyson looked amazing early on after good TC's, but has dropped off recently. There is still hope, but he was still a great pickup that late. Two solid draftees who will contribute in the near future. Good class
Only pic avail! YEE. Khadeem looks to help the blazers win the ship!
2020 Draft:
Pick #33
OKC Thunder - Jesse Pistokache PF 6'9'' 250 21 C+ C D A- C+ B
OKC Thunder - Jesse Pistokache SF 23 6'9'' 250 B C D A+ B- B
Creme de le crop. bigblu makes a great selection here. Jesse has made huge improvements in his short time in the league. Already he is one of the best defenders in the league and his rebounding/offense are no liability either. Given time, he could be one of the better 2nd round steals. OKC has a plethora of SF's. It's a shame we can't watch this guy D up opposing SF's night in and night out.
Pick #34
Charlotte Bobcats - Josh Town SF 20 6'8'' 216 C+ A- C C+ C+ B
Free Agent - Josh Town SF 6'8'' 216 21 C+ A- C+ C+ C+ B
Town has developed nicely for the Bobcats, but they were unable to attain him in Free Agency. He ended up signing with no one which is a major mystery given his success in his first two years. A very versatile player who still has room to grow.
Pick #40
San Antonio Spurs - Torre Willridge C 7'3'' 264 20 C D- D+ B+ B- B
San Antonio Spurs - Torre Willridge C 22 7'3'' 264 C+ D- C- A- B C
Saga makes another great selection in the 2nd round. How does he do it? Torre isn't quite ready to contribute to a competing team, but given a little more development he could turn into a solid backup PF/C.
Solid class headed by Jesse who looks to be an elite player in the league and two solid bench players
JESSE is a ladies name!
2021 Draft:
Pick #37
Philedelphia 76ers - Ryan Watkins C 6'10'' 250 22 B- C- D B+ C C
Philedelphia 76ers - Ryan Watkins C 22 6'10'' 250 B- C- D A- C+ C
Pick #38
Philedelphia 76ers - Dushon Shepeard SG 6'5'' 210 22 C B- C+ B D+ C
Philedelphia 76ers - Dushon Shepeard SG 22 6'5'' 210 C B C+ B+ C- B
Pick #40
Minnesota Timberwolves - Bryce Beekman SG 6'7'' 202 19 C+ C+ C C+ C- A
Minnesota Timberwolves - Bryce Beekman SG 20 6'7'' 202 C+ B C+ C+ C- B
Pick #42
Los Angelos Lakers - Jean-Paul Kambola C 7'2'' 288 22 C C- D+ B- B- B
Los Angelos Clippers- Jean-Paul Kambola C 23 7'2'' 288 C+ C D+ C+ B A
Stats really don't matter for these players at this point in their careers. It's all speculation whether they will develop into steals or not at this point, but they have shown some development.
2011 Draft:
#34 pick:
Los Angeles Clippers - Kris Joseph SF 6'7'' 207 23 B C+ C- B C- B
Dallas Mavericks- Kris Joseph SF 6'7'' 207 31 B B- C- B C- D
#52 pick:
