Gm Dan Basone of the Los Angeles Lakers squad is once again one of the top powerhouse teams out west for their 6th consecutive year. They have seen to dominate the league standings, with an all time tied career wins record 291 up to this point in the season, the other team is the Cleveland Cavaliers. It is no secret to Basone’s success, in the early years of the Lakers organization the team was led by Kobe Bryant, Baron Davis and Shawn Marion. After a season the team was not clicking and Basone went a new route. Over the years he acquired talent such as Emeka Okafor, Monta Ellis, TJ Ford, Leandro Barbosa, and other such names to give them a dominating force since the start of the league. Was it the defense that the guards brought that contributed to their success, or the dominating young big man? Was it the fact that Shawn Marion was considered the best all around player in UOSL2 or the fact that they were filled with great starters 1-5? The Laker’s success can be from all these things and maybe just some great tactics, either way Basone’s organization has been one of the most successful franchises in UOSL2, if not the best. They have one championship ring, in two finals appearances, two western conference championships, and a 5-time playoff resume.
This season seems just like the rest, except for the competition. New teams have seemed to have the Lakers number and last season the Laker's were knocked out of the second round vs. the Warriors. Can it be the end of this long running squad? With two starter contracts expiring at the end of the season, Basone has another decision to face, what to do with these two. Complications are ahead for the Laker's, as they are getting older and the roster seems to be out of place. It is a time of decisions, and a time to look at the future, Basone will have a busy off-season and time will tell if this squad still has that championship hunger in them.
