Finally, my Highest Paid Players article has arrived here in UOSL2. The potty mouth has been dialed back since I don't know most of you as well as I did GMs in other leagues but please enjoy the hardcore nudity.
Listed here are the 20 highest paid players for this season.
1. SG Kobe Bryant, 36, Hornets: $35,814,024
Kobe takes the trophy for biggest salary this season. I'm estimating he's made close to a quarter billion dollars in UOSL2. His scoring has gone down the past 6 years from 32.8 in 2009 to to 19.7 this season.
2. C Tim Duncan, 38, Heat: $25,954,366
This appears to be the last tour of duty for the 2007 Playoffs MVP and UOSL Champion. His body has fallen apart from 17 seasons of play. He has been limited to 11 games this season due to a broken skull.
3. PG Baron Davis, 35, Warriors: $24,660,000
Davis is wasting away on the worst team in the league, the miserable 7-30 Warriors but he has $24.66 million reasons not to care. That's a lot of singles to blow through in San Francisco's fabulous gay night club districts.
4. SF LeBron James, 29, Grizzlies: $23,736,117 $25,714,127 $27,692,136
The first person on this list to earn what he's being paid, LeBron is #1 in points, #2 in FG%, #2 in FT%, and is leading his team to the best record in the league at 37-11. He's made the All-League 1st Team all 8 seasons of UOSL2.
5. SG Dwyane Wade, 32, Sonics: $23,646,206 $25,795,862 $27,945,517 $30,095,172
Wade is a poor man's LeBron if you don't have that extra $90k to drop on your superstar. Wade is another guy who deserves what he's paid, as his team is only 3 games back from the Grizzlies for the league's best record.
6. PF Elton Brand, 35, Heat: $23,016,000
Recently brought in to share the frontcourt with Duncan, the Heat have a combined $49 million in expiring between the two. Once Duncan recovers from breaking his skull, it'll still be a longshot for the duo to make the playoffs.
7. C Pau Gasol, 34, Lakers: $22,750,000
Just traded for Yao Ming, the Lakers are rebuilding and hoarding large expirings to become players in the free agent market. Pau's numbers have dropped this season and might be a steal for the MLE this offseason - a $18.25 million paycut.
8. SF Andrei Kirilenko, 33, 76ers: $22,627,000 $24,889,700
AK47's game has really fallen apart, his scoring has gone down in each of the past 5 seasons. He still has A+ defense but he's no longer a shot blocking presence. Gave himself some respectability by making the All-League Defense Team last season for the first time in years.
9. SG Tracy McGrady, 35, Suns: $21,879,113
T-Mac still has plenty of game in his 17th season, averaging 26.6 points on 48% shooting for a team fighting for a playoff spot out West. Of all the old guys with big expiring contracts, he might be getting the biggest payday come this offseason.
10. C Chris Bosh, 30, 76ers: $21,487,596 $23,657,843 $25,856,600 $27,482,700
Philadelphia has really poured the cash into their team. Unfortunately, $89.8 million is only getting them a mediocre .500 record. They are the only team with 2 players in the top 10, which make up 49% of their payroll.
11. PF Josh Smith, 28, Hawks: $21,000,000
Smith has spent his entire career in Atlanta, pretty rare in a league when even LeBron and Wade can be traded. He's been on every All-League Defense Team there's been. Props to the Hawks for their loyalty to him and good luck keeping him for the prime years of his career.
11. PF Dwight Howard, 28, Pacers: $21,000,000
Dwight is a monster, he's won the last 3 UOSL championships and has the last 2 playoff MVP trophies in his living room. He definitely the highlight of this offseason's free agent crop.
13. C Yao Ming, 34, Pistons: $20,514,000 $22,092,000 $23,670,000
Until the 30-year old Kenny George enters the draft, Yao's the tallest player in UOSL. Injury problems have plagued his career and he's now on his 3rd team trying to rid himself of the reputation that his teams can't win.
13. PF Amare Stoudemire, 31, Sonics: $20,514,000 $22,092,000 $23,670,000
Amare is to Wade as KG is to LeBron - only Amare is still young. Last year he won the Slam Dunk Contest at age 30. If the Grizzlies and Sonics meet up in the Western Conference Finals, it'll be quite a show.
15. SG Joe Johnson, 33, Cavaliers: $19,925,592 $21,348,849
The Cavaliers have $80.8 million already committed for next season and only 9 players signed. Never a good thing for a sub .500 team. You have to wonder why they traded LeBron for this. Surely having the league's best player on your team was much more fun?
16. C Carlos Boozer, 33, Timberwolves: $19,754,452 $21,597,500
A big scorer and a big rebounder for an undersized center. His strengths and flaws have been well documented. His career averages of 0.3 blocks in dismal. This season he's averaging a career best tying 0.3 blocks. The Timberwolves are 3 games above .500 but 2-8 in their 10. If that continues, look for Boozer to be moved for expirings.
17. SF Carmelo Anthony, 30, Bulls: $19,653,990 $21,291,823 $22,929,655 $24,567,488
'Melo is a lot farther down on the list than Wade and LeBron and rightfully so. He's below average at defense, his team is 6 games under .500, and doesn't have nearly the accolades or awards as the other two. He's been spending too much time with Ron Artest working on the follow up to Ron Ron's original rap album, "My World." It sold 343 total copies, less than 5% of K-Fed's first week total... Their new album isn't expected to do much better.
18. PF Kevin Garnett, 38, Grizzlies: $19,250,000 $21,000,000 $22,750,000 $24,500,000 $26,250,000
The Celtics and Pistons had a bidding war for KG's services last offseason with the C's narrowly winning out by slandering the Pistons and lying to KG about his role and the team's commitment to winning. Instead, they tried to convert him into a PG and it got ugly. He refused to report to training camp the next season and was promptly traded. Now he's LeBron's sidekick on the league's best team.
19. SG Andre Iguodala, 30, Cavaliers: $18,900,000 $21,262,500 $23,625,000 $25,987,500 $28,350,000 $30,712,500 $33,075,000
In my humble opinion, this is the stupidest decision that's been made by anyone in this league. The last 4 years of this ridiculous contract are each enough to put him 2nd on this list. What was the point of the 7th year?
19. SF Luol Deng, 29, Clippers: $18,900,000 $19,845,000 $20,837,250 $21,879,113 $22,973,069 $24,121,722 $25,327,808
In stark contrast to my opinion of AI's deal, I would be totally fine with Deng's contract if it wasn't for the 7th year. Deng is much more of a max-type player than AI is. He's been among the league's leaders in points the past 5 seasons and is 1 of the best rebounding SFs.
