Draft Notes-
Can Isaiah make a name for himself?
Like every class so far in this draft, there seems to be one player that separates himself from the rest of the pack, and that man is Rodney Hood. Rodney is so hood. Rodney is an extremely athletic, strong, quick, good rebounding, great shot blocking small forward. Along with that impressive package, Hood also brings an up and coming outside game. He has a solid jump shot, and at times he'll stretch his range from the arc. Although, physically Hood could play PF, he needs to become a better positional defender and needs to work on his inside game before he ever considers playing with the big boys. Rodney also has and probably always will play SF. That's where he plays best at on both sides of the ball. There are 2 more lottery prospects in this strong SF class, Wayne Martin and Isaiah Goldwire. We'll start with Mr. Martin. Wayne is one of those players scouts drool for. A scoring machine who has such a nice upside. Wade is great at the FT line, and he's also got a pretty nice outside shot. Wayne has solid athleticism and is pretty quick. His defense right now is pulling the rest of his game behind. He'll get you a steal a game, but that's about it. And for someone with his size and height, he sure his a poor rebounder. Next up is, Isaiah. Now don't sleep on Isaiah. He is the most athletic forward in this draft, and has great presence inside. He knows how to get to the hoop, and he knows how to finish. More importantly, Isaiah can shoot. Well, he may not be able to shoot great outside, but his jump shot is sweet. Mr. Goldwire is not a good defender, and that is something to worry about. Isaiah, however, is an amazing shot blocker, and should get a block or 2 a year. And best of all is his size. He can actually rebound unlike most the other players in this class. I think Isaiah will be a pretty nice player in uosl2.
Next, we'll talk about Drake Harris. Drake is a really big player. He doesn't really play big but his size jumps out to you. Physically, Drake is behind. He's very average across the board and that's not what has scouts excited. What they do like is his outside scoring and his upside. He has a very well balanced scoring attack and he handles the ball quite well. The problem with Drake is he's still pretty raw. The rest of his game still has ways to go. Overall, we do know Drake can score, and that's about it. We'll just have to wait and see if the rest of his game comes around. Grandy Glaze is another big bodied forward. However, Glaze and Drake are quite different. Grandy is a very slow moving forward who likes to bully the ball inside. He's got good strength and fair athleticism. Offensively, Glaze has a very nice upside. He can score inside over bigger guys, but he also has one of the most underrated shots in this draft. I think if Glaze continues to improve his game he could be a good scorer, that's of course 'IF' he improves. Again, like many of the forwards in this class, Grandy fails to hit the boards often. At 20, Grandy looks like he could be a very serviceable player. And lastly we have Anthony Anderson, rounding off a very solid projected first round class. AA can play defense, and really play defense. He is a hustle player who is on his man like clue. He's got all the physical and skills necessary to be an outstanding defender. So if you want some defense off the bench, AA is your guy.
After the first top 6 players in this class, the talent really takes a big fall, and there's nothing that seems to sexy out there. But don't sleep on Villanova freshmen phenom B.J. Jenkins and seasoned veterans such as Travon Landry, Darius Singleton, and others.
