The free agent market this year is now bigger then it usually is, in fact if a team with cap room doesn't make an attempt to make a splash in free agency, one would have to question what they are doing.
Without further due, I'll jump into the players that are available by alphabetical order from their former teams.
Winston McLeod (76ers)- The 33 year old big man is very serviceable as not only to backup but to start as well for a playoff contender. He’s made his way around the NBA and may not even ask for a lot of money. An almost career double-double guy, he’ll improve any teams front-court no matter where he went.
David Jelinek (Bobcats)- is one of ten Bobcat players that are testing the free-agent market, it will be up to the new GM to make smart resignings, if they can retain Jelinek they would be in solid position to make a run for the title, at 30 years of age, a good contract from the GM would show us how much he values his team.
Nathaniel Britt (Bucks)- While the Bucks also have a large amount of players testing the waters, most of them are getting up in age. But one player for sure is a must retain for the Milwaukee team is Britt, while his numbers are on the decline from his rookie season, Britt has proved to an efficient player on both sides of the court with his FG% improving.
Maximiliano Martin (Bulls)- The point guard from Italy has amazed us with his shooting ability last season, not only did he improve in points per game but he improved his FG% from last season as well. The five seasoned guard may get overlooked by many teams with the profuse amount of guards testing the waters, but Martin is no slouch himself.
Teon Lippon (Cavaliers)- The journey man has bounced around the league playing for six teams in seven seasons. While the name sounds familiar, the three point specialist, shooting at 48% from the arc, also impressed Cleveland management with his 4:1 assist to turnover ratio.
Nigel Williams-Goss (Celtics)- The former third round pick finally picked up his game last season and couldn’t have done it at a better time for himself to get a new contract. The Celtics will look to retain his rights but Nigel does come with extra baggage and hasn’t distributed the ball as often as the team would like.
Anthony Williams (Clippers)- The coveted free-agent from Los Angeles decided to test the market, while the Clippers weren’t thrilled about such a situation, the team will look to resign him this season and perhaps make another run in the finals. Williams may not attract the super start attention but he gets the job done on the boards and plays a very underrated game on the court.
Miles Davis (Grizzlies)- The Grizzlies key player is amongst the NBA’s best in putting up big numbers, the former second overall selection put up a career high at 30 point per game at an impressive 46% from the field. Davis should attract a lot of attention in free agent market as he is one of the biggest names in UOSL.
Ralston Turner (Hawks)- The 34 year old sharp-shooter still turns head on the court as the aging shooter put up a career best 24.4 point per game shooting 40% beyond the arc. While Turner already won a championship in Chicago, bringing one to Atlanta is one he hopes to bring as well if the team can give an offer he wants.
Will Mack (Heat)- A pick that was used by Andy, Mack is a double-double machine. A big man with great ratings and knows his role, the former Colorado big man could be looking for a big deal at the ripe age of 27.
Dorian Dawins (Knicks)- UOSL’s Gilbert Arenas is the biggest name in free agency and the biggest name with Price in UOSL. A former participant of the slam dunk contest winner, Dawkins most recently made his name on the all-defensive second team. A usual participant in such categories as his 2.9 steals per game is amongst the league’s best. The Knicks will hope to retain Dawkins and go from there.
Kevin Durant (Nets)- If it weren’t for Lebron James, this old man would have the senior citizen home all to himself, best his days in the league aren’t even close to over. He can still put up big numbers and is a threat all over the court. Durant only has two bird years so it will be up to the Nets to decide how much money he is worth.
Torey Boozer (Nets)- A former late selection has made his way to New Jersey where has has proven himself amongst the elite. The big man still has to improve his defense but he’s still worth a contract the Nets might not be able to match.
Isiah Austin (Pacers)- He’s spent nine seasons with the franchise and won a championship with the team, he isn’t the most important piece to the franchise but he still can put up big numbers in big games.
Matías Nocedal (Spurs)- The San Antonio point guard from Argentina spent his early days with the Kings and has found a new home in Sacramento, the addition of Garrett has seen his minutes and numbers on the decline, averaging under 20 minutes a game and career lows in point per game, assists per game, and steals per game, Nocedal may look for a new home.
Thomas Marshall (Trailblazers)- A second round pick and a complete steal in the draft, Marshall enters free agency as an unrestricted free agent with no bird years. The point guard has proved he can play with the big guys in the league and at 25 years of age he has a lot of room to grow, where he will go is probably the biggest question in the draft as he is sure to leave the Blazers with ~2 million dollars in cap space.
Lewis Claybrin (Warriors)- One of the youngest prospects in the league and already a star player, Claybrin has shined in Golden State playing along side one of the best stars in the league, Favors and Trier. Claybrin plays an important role with the team and can most likely be a top scorer on other teams. The Warriors would love to get him back but it depends on the cost as this is also a team that may face cap trouble in a couple seasons.
Art Kimber (Warriors)- Last but not least, is the 30 year old veteran who hails from Purdue in his two seasons with Golden State. Kimber is a winner, playing in one of the few best franchises in the league today. While Kimber will surely be missed by the Warriors if he does leave the team still has a load of talent. While his numbers did drop from last season at 30.1 points per game, Kimber should be coveted by every team with cap space for one of the biggest deals in the off-season.
Good luck to all teams this free-agency.
