And people wonder why MLB is hurting compared to the NFL. The fact that the Yankees can go out and sign 3 players for over 68 mil a year. There were 10 teams that had a lower payroll than just those 3 players last season.

I said this before in the Sabathia thread..."I love the Yankees, but I hate the way we can just buy almost any player on the market...seriously... "

The deal looks close to getting done, he'll most likely yankee for sure before Wednesday afternoon.
______________________________________________ A look at Impacto Deportivo's recent history:
11/24/08: Reported the Braves as the mystery team in on Rafael Furcal, offering four years and $52MM. The offer was inaccurate, but they did nail the mystery team. 11/12/08: Correctly scooped the Damaso Marte signing. 2/21/08: Incorrectly indicated the White Sox reached an agreement with Bartolo Colon. Also incorrect on a similar rumor involving the Royals. 1/21/08: Correctly scooped the Octavio Dotel signing. 11/18/07: Correctly scooped the Luis Castillo signing

Also after the 'close signing' for Manny the yankees have not pulled out of the Teixeira sweepstakes.

First off a salary cap would never be instituted because of the union. they would be against that.
Plus the yankees took off about 90 million off the books this off season with the departures of a lot of players.
Signing both CC and AJ does not even come close to their amount of money they had last season...
The yankees are in the best market. If they have the money, why not spend it? A lot of teams do this, they only pick on the yankees because they are the ones who started doing this back in the 70's, and do it the most often. Red soxs, cubs, phillies, mets, tigers, white soxs..Yes the yankees are the most and the highest above everyone else. But does this strategy seem to work every time? No, so people need to stop complaining that small market teams can never win. Countless times in recent history that has been proven wrong.

NY is a big market Team. They play within the system. They re-distribute the entire payroll of many small market Teams in the form of Luxury Tax to the rest of the League.

Yeah they do that for the small market teams indeed. No I am not arguing with you at all, just saying stuff. People say this all the time on espn boards and stuff and I never hear the end of the money issue.

Other teams are doing it too...lol
The next closest payroll was only 2/3 rds of the Yankees payroll!
The NFL has the best financial structure in sports. And guess what a NY owner was one of the main figures in getting it implemented.
The salary cap should have been put in place long ago. The players union has way to much power. The game is played on an uneven playing field. Even so the Yankees will be a 1st round exit.

What is the point you are trying to make with a NY owner being one of the main figures? Okay... I am just saying that a salary cap will never happen in baseball. The little franchises still get paid by the larger ones. And the yankees will run the american league this year. So good luck everyone else. BTW, the playing field is not uneven. Look at all the small market teams in the past who have had success and went to the WS. Ray, Rockies, Marlins, Padres. Past 10 years all been to the WS. Small market franchises can put just the same capable winner out there as the larger ones. It is a lot harder but they are capable of doing it no doubt.
